Ongoing projects:
The workgroup Land- and freshwater molluscs has meanwhile been named “Succinea”, and collaborates, amongst others, with the workgroup “Waterleven” (“poelen-werkgroep”) of Natuurpunt for the identification of water plants and the research on abiotic factors of the water, and assists that workgroup with the identification of the molluscs in the ponds which were subject to the studies.

Regularly, excursions are organised to examine the molluscan fauna in a specific area. For example: In recent years the freshwater molluscs which occur in the nature reserve Wolvenberg near Antwerp, in the anti-tank ditch around Antwerp, along the old canal arm of Feluy, and in the near of Olloy-sur-Viroin (near Nismes) were brought to inventory.

In 2010, a long-term project was started to inventorize the occurrence of Naiades (those are the large fresh water mussels such as the swan mussel and the painter’s mussel) in Flanders and even broader in Belgium.

Come 2012, the Slak-in-Du project was kicked off, via which molluscs in dune areas along the Belgian coast were documented. Results of this projects can be found on the separate page which was created for this project.

Next to excursions, the workgroup has regular identification-meetings where the collected data and/or material is studied and discussed – or where a specific group of land- or freshwater molluscs is examined in depth.

Those meetings are held at a separate location, in the Provinciaal Natuur- en Landschapshuis in het kasteel “Vrieselhof” in Oelegem (Schildesteenweg 95, 2520 Oelegem-Ranst)
