The Slak-in-Du project aims to survey mollusks in the dune areas along our Belgian coast to gain a more complete picture of the richness of mollusks in this specific biotope, which forms an important habitat for land snails in Flanders and Belgium.
The project is limited to the coastal dunes. This also includes the older dune areas further inland, where so-called dune forests have often developed. The various ditches and ponds within them are also part of the study area.
The boundaries of the area to be studied are defined by the foredunes and the adjacent polders. Research focuses mainly on nature reserves managed by the Agency for Nature and Forests (ANB) or Natuurpunt, as these are rarely visited and therefore likely host greater species diversity. All observations within the project are posted on the website www.waarnemingen.be.
